On July 22, 2024, students, workers, and activists marched along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City for the People’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) to express their concerns about President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s unmet promises.

Met with heavy downpour, the demonstration took place while Marcos Jr. delivered his third SONA at the Batasang Pambansa. Activists rejected the administration’s slogan, “Bagong Pilipinas” (literally New Philippines), drawing attention to various issues, including inflation, human rights violations, and rising tensions in the West Philippine Sea.

Community members and grassroots organizations in cities across the United States held PSONA actions to oppose US intervention in the Philippines. The nationwide actions amplified calls for genuine sovereignty, services, and human rights for Filipino people from all classes and sectors.
